Small Owl (Free Pattern) (Beginner-Friendly)
Tumblr media
Here's a free, beginner-level crochet pattern, the first one ever posted on my blog! Just in time for New Years.
Materials
Red Heart Super Saver yarn
4.0 mm crochet hook
16 mm safety eyes (optional)
Embroidery thread
Stuffing
Pattern
Wings:
Magic Circle 6 sc (6)
Row 1: 6 sc (6)
Row 2: 6 inc (12)
Fold in half, and use remaining yarn to sew the edges together - this forms a half-circle.
Body:
Magic circle
Row 1: 6 sc (6)
Row 2: 6 inc (12)
Row 3: 6(1 sc, 1 inc) (18)
Row 4: 18 sc (18)
Row 5: 3(4 sc, dec) (15)
Row 6: 3(3 sc, dec) (12)
Row 7 and Row 8: 12 sc (12)
Row 9: 3(2 sc, dec) (9)
Optional: Insert safety eyes between Row 8 and Row 9
Fill with stuffing
Sl st from the first stitch into the fifth stitch
5 sc, then stitch closed. Cut yarn. This forms the first “ear” of the owl.
Pull yarn through an open stitch on the open end of your work. This will form the second “ear” of the owl.
5 sc, then stitch closed. Cut yarn.
Sew wings onto the sides of the owl.
Take your embroidery thread and sew a large “v” shape to create the "beak" for your owl.
Happy New Year, everyone!

Love when I'm looking for knitting patterns aimed at beginner knitters and find patterns with instructions that look like someone keysmashed across both the numberpad and keypad and then threw a couple commas in there for flavor. Webbed sites please I'm begging you to go easy on me, I don't know the knitter code yet and I barely understand what a purl stitch is. When I say "beginner" I mean "beginner"; I'm not gonna be able to answer your riddles three!

Beginner-Friendly Free Granny Square Pattern: The Dahlia
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: I'm not 100% certain that I invented this pattern. Though I have never seen a granny square like this before, I acknowledge that it is constructed with very simple stitches. I am, however, offering it free to use! All I ask is that if you use this pattern and someone asks you where you learned it, it would be nice if you could point them to my blog.
Materials
(These are simply the matierals that I used)
Red Heart acrylic yarn, worsted weight, size 4, in Light Blue
Inscraft sample yarn, acrylic, worsted weight, size 4 (no color name listed, I would describe it as red pomegranate)
Size 5.0mm hook
Stitches Needed
Ch
Hdc
Dc
Cl
Tr
Pattern
Row 1: Magic circle
Row 2: Ch 2, 2 unfinished dc - stitch together (this forms our first cluster stitch). Make 7 3-dc cl. Sl st into first cluster (8)
Row 3: Between each cluster, 2 3-dc cl, making 16 cl. Sl st into first cluster (16)
Change color (optional)
Row 4: Between two clusters, chain two, make three unfinished dc, this is how you make the cluster sts for this row. Make 15 4-dc cl (optional: ch 1 between cl, or as needed), sl st into first cluster (16-32)
Row 5: Between two clusters, ch 3, 2 tr, ch 2, in the same space 3 tr, in the next space make 3dc, 3 hdc in the next space, 3 dc, 3 tr, ch 2, 3 trc, 3 dc, 3 hdc - and so on, until round is finished (68)
My granny square measures approximately 5.1"×5.1"
Size may vary depending on your yarn, tension, and hook size.
Feel free to ask questions if the pattern is unclear.
Happy crafting!

nobody:
me, doing a silly little dance at 11:30 in my room bc there is eight days til my dr puts me on anxiety meds, I see about going back on the ones I used to take for acne, and I get my last paycheck which means I'lll be able to buy yarn, crochet hooks, a printer, and a dresser (aka my last adult purchases til I work again and in the meantime, will be getting $40 for chores so that stuff around the house gets done and I can buy groceries/treats for myself and treat myself to my walks)
